Y5/6 Music Curriculum Support Visit (Core)

An enhanced level of support is available this year for Y5/6 teachers, who will initially have one classroom visit for support in teaching one of the following (teachers need to state which choice they would like when booking for this curriculum support):
Music through Literacy
Music and manipulating sound using computers/ICT
Singing
Integrating instrumentalists such as violin players, clarinettists & guitarists, into class music lessons
Each visit will last max 1 hour or if there are several Y5 & Y6 classes, ½ day max per school
In addition to this, teachers may
attend an optional Curriculum Support twilight seminar: see following table for more details.

Safeguarding Children: Stage 2

This two day course is part of North Somerset Safeguarding Children Board's (NSSCB) Inter Agency Training programme for 2008-2009, and is designed for teachers who have a responsibility for Child Protection. Participants should have completed Stage 1 training previously.
However, this is not required for experienced staff.
Participants' role should have a significant involvement in safeguarding children including offering advice and contributing to assessments and safeguarding plans in a variety of settings such as case conferences and core groups.
A variety of presentational styles and learning approaches are used. The course is participative and involves a multi-agency audience.
The course is tutored by Liz and Vicky from Aspire Associates, and colleagues from partner agencies including, Area Health and Primary Care Trusts, and the Education Service, including Dr Deborah Barff, DC Hilary Norley, Pat Richards, Gaye Strudwick and Ros Thompson.
Refreshments and lunch are provided.

This three session course is an introduction to the Critical Skills classroom model for school leaders. The model is a highly interactive experiential approach that moves students forward in National Curriculum objectives by developing their knowledge and learning to learn skills through collaborative problem solving. The course, like the classroom model, is engaging, stimulating and inspiring.

Y1 Music Curriculum Support

Teachers are invited to attend a practical (twilight) seminar in which a wide range of music games and musical activities are introduced, followed by two Curriculum Support visits, which will support delivery of the National Curriculum. Participants will be introduced to a variety of songs as well as musical activities which can be used to integrate tuned and un-tuned instruments into classroom music teaching. Teachers can also request that the visits support the teaching of units in the Music Express scheme of work.
